FOSSIL WATCHES

Fossil were first brought to watch lovers attention fairly recently but that hasn’t stopped their brand and designs from taking the market by storm.

Their designs are both urban and chic and definitely have a 1950’s feel to them, whilst still looking great in any situation.

Fossil is a worldwide global brand that brings something new to the table, their prime concepts are fashion and value which is always good for the consumers pocket, add to that their new range of jewellery to compliment the watch range and you can clearly see why they are so popular all over the globe.

This winters range brings, amongst other things a new range of gents classic watches, but still with that modern look and also incorporates “smoke plating” which really does set off the watches to give a very unusual yet smart look.

The other new edition to the range is several new ladies leather cuff watches, which combine the ultra strong leather, which only adds to the durability, and the ultra modern stainless steel watch cases, which really do set the watch off in any surroundings.

POLICE - HISTORY AND WATCHES.

POLICE - HISTORY AND WATCHES.

The watch brand Police was first on the scene in 1980 and was launched in Venice, it originally begun as a high end collection of designer and ultra modern timepieces and has carried that same look and image right through to the current range.

From high up in the mountains near Venice the Police range has evolved into not just this cutting edge range of watches, but also sunglasses and now a new modern range of Police jewellery.

Police do not just produce watches and are probably more well known for their sunglasses range, which of course as most people will have seen is fronted by their leading ambassador David Beckham.

The range is split into different sections, but all are still ultra modern and look great, with a suit or just in normal everyday clothing. Some of the more famous names in the range are the “Twin gear” and the “Matrix”.

All of the Police range is backed by two year guarantees and the robust materials you would come to expect from a leading designer brand.

Here at Watch Wizard we are proud to unveil are new range of police watches and look forward to the new timepieces and other Police items in the future.

Tissots Sporting Connections.

Tissot is the official sponsor and time keeper for the Moto Gp World Championships. This consists of 18 races worldwide , which visit , Europe , Australasia , and of course America.

The Moto Gp season runs from march right through to October each year , and to compliment the occasion Tisssot brings out both non limited and limited edition watches , most of these come packaged in full size motorbike helmets which look amazing.

Tissot also sponsor other sporting events and these include the Cycling world championships , Fencing world championships , Chinese basketball championships and the Australian football league season.

Probably the sporting event Tissot are most linked with would be the Nascar race championships also held all over America. This championship consists of some 37 races from February till November every year and attract massive crowds both on television and at the racetracks.

All these sports reflect Tissots main brand values of performance and precision , whilst still standing out from the crowd with your timepiece.

The main sponsorTissots of the Olympics, which I’m sure most of us saw at least a glimpse of in China recently , are of course Omega and they too have a major link with Tissot being from the same group , which is the Swatch group.

Here at Watch Wizard , we are continually looking forward to the next new editions or ranges supplied to us by Tissot.

Automatic Movements Vs Quartz Movements

Automatic Movements Vs Quartz Movements

What is an Automatic Movement? When a watch states that it is an automatic, it is referring to the type of movement the watch has inside. An automatic movement does not run off a battery, it runs off the wearers movement which in turn turns the rotor which winds the main spring. This type of movement is typically accurate to within one minute per day. We currently stock several Tissot Automatic Watches as well as a whole range of Rotary Watches including the Rotary Editions collection.

What is a Quartz Movement? A Quartz movement is made from either natural or man made Silicon dioxide crystal. When this crystal is activated by energy in the form of a battery or solar power for example it will vibrate at a very high and constant rate. This therefore produces very accurate time keeping to within about one minute per annum. Most watches these days use this type of movement due to its accuracy, however there are different qualities of Quartz movement. A Swiss made movement will always be more desireable than a typical movement. All Tissot Watches have Swiss made movements. You will find Quartz movements in all Adidas, Sekonda and Seksy watches.

Even though Quartz watches are more accurate than there Automatic counterparts you will often find the more luxury prestigious brands will use Automatic movements, this is due craftsmanship being prized just like any other piece of fine Jewellery.

Materials used in Watch Cases and Bracelets

Stainless Steel

For the majority of watch manufactures Stainless Steel is the preferred choice, for both case and bracelets. Most use a very high quality stainless steel from the 316L family.

The advantages of this and several other stainless steels , are its high corrosion tolerance and long lasting durability.

To give but one example, certain steels that are regularly used in the medical field for implants amongst other things are also a member of this stainless steel family.

Titanium

The metallic element called Titanium is a element found deep in the earths crust, and it is approximately a full 50% lighter than steel, add to this that it is also Nickel free ,which can cause marks and rashes to some wearers, and the fact that its 100% recyclable and you can see why so many watches are available in this material today.

Polished Titanium

Any models which state they have a polished titanium finish , both on the watch and bracelet means that it has been both polished and protected with a grey pvd treatment to the surface which improves the resistance and wear to the watch.

Lots of the top brands are now using all of the above , included in that list are both Tissot and Rotary as well as Sekonda, Dkny, and Police.

Rotary Watches - The History of….

Rotary watches was established back in 1895 in the Swiss town of La Chaux de Fonds. The company was setup by Moise Dreyfuss. With demand for high quality good value time pieces being strong this family business grew quickly. In the 1920’s Georges and Sylvain Dreyfuss open a branch in Great Britain and started to import their watches. In the mid 20’s the famed winged wheel Rotary symbol was created. The company continued to flourish and in the 1940’s became official watch supplier to the British army. In 1987 Richard Dreyfuss became the fourth generation of the family to join the company ensuring Rotary remained a fully independently run family business. Many of the worlds best known watch brands started out as family businesses but have lost the traditions which were set by their founders when they have sold their company to large conglomerates. Since 2000 there have been several highlights for the Rotary company, they have won supplier of the year on 2 occasions as well as being named a super brand for three consecutive years. They have also introduced a new Dolphin standard on most of their range which is a new waterproof standard. It allows the wearer to basically swim and dive all day.

Pvd Explained

Pvd is a process used on watch cases and straps ,due to it wearing better than the stainless steel or titanium ,that sits underneath it.

There are several variations used when adding Pvd to watches but its very difficult to know what type, when buying a watch. You also need to know that Pvd cannot be reapplied ,although any scratches or marks from wear and tear in my opinion just add a certain amount of character to the look of your timepiece.

Pvd actually stands for Physical Vapor Deposition, and can also be sometimes referred to as Ion Plating, and this process has been around and being used ,since 1838.

The process used to Pvd a watchcase or strap involves placing the watch in a non reactive atmosphere and heating it upto approximately 400 oc ,then it is sprayed with the Pvd molecules to coat it , giving you a strong wearing outer layer.

It is currently being used by many watch manufacturers, amongst them ,both Tissot and Rotary , and you will find it on the majority of their watches.

The main benefit over the standard gold plating is its durability and the fact that its harder wearing.

Tissot watches and the credit crunch

Since 1853, Tissot has consistently maintained its status as one of the most pioneering fashion watch brands in the world. This identification mark internationally has delivered some of the unique scientific advances in history. Based in Switzerland and sold throughout the world, Tissot is proud subsidiary of Swatch Group, one of the largest and most profitable watch producers. As the leader in the traditional Swiss watch segment, its mission has been to offer a wide public, a range of high quality watches at prices almost anyone could afford. They have been maintaining a balance of technology, high-quality and affordable for quite some time, and this combination is equal to one thing - value. Having been on the market for the past 150 years, this high-class Swiss watch offers its consumers first rate value and pricing. Tissot watches definitely come with a reasonable price, especially compared with other Swiss watches on the market today. It is likely to retain their value for a good amount of time, too, as they are now part of the well-known for Swatch watches. The Swatch Group Ltd includes some of the well-known brands of watches including Calvin Klein, and Longines. This and other brands of the Swatch watch group represents 15% of total sales of watches in the industry. With the current real estate and economic situation in americas and around the world, Tissot watches have become increasingly for the most popular value-oriented luxury watch enthusiast. You can get a great Tissot watch about half the price of other brands Swiss. The real style and affordability makes Tissot watches the first choice for consumers looking for a luxury watches that do not leave their portfolios empty. The Tissot watches around the world received recognition and praise, thanks to some well-documented innovations and milestones. The innovations are many, as the first anti-magnetic clock, the first clock plastic called Idea 2001, the first wristwatch stone and still one of the first wrist watches built using wood appropriately called The wooden clock. Tissot is committed to respecting tradition and offer "gold" to a "silver" price at the same time.

Watch Glasses

Any watch that states it has a crystal cover, is usually referring to the transparent cover that protects and seals the face.

These “Watch Crystals” can be made of various materials but mainly one of the following:

1) Plexiglass - lightweight type of plastic

2)Standard Glass - same as window glass and usually referred to as Mineral Glass.

Plexiglass is the least expensive and is also the least likely to smash , and most likely to scratch.

Mineral Glass is more prone to cracking but less likely to scratch.

When a watch states that it has a sapphire glass, this means that they have a synthetic sapphire which is one of the hardest materials on earth ,this is not a new thing , sapphire glass was invented in the 19th century and has been used in watches since the early sixties, hence it being used by lots of the top end watch brands for their watches..

It is not possible to tell the difference between a mineral and a sapphire glass purely by looking at them , the only way to really tell is by trying to scratch the glass , which is not a good idea as if its mineral you will be left with those marks for good.

Both Tissot and Rotary use sapphire glasses on most of their ranges , mainly due to the sapphire glasses being almost impossible to scratch.
